The runner of the backside of the part has to be cut prior to packaging. The trimmed runners have to be discarded because they are a trip hazard if they pile on the floor. The team member would have to trim the runner, take 5 seconds to take 4 steps in a round trip to the waste bucket every 30 seconds. Over a 8-hour shift, this is 1.3 hours of time and 1.8 miles of extra motion! Putting the bucket at the end of the conveyor to catch the runners saves extra motion and time.
